The Sea Is in the Fish and the Fish Is in the Sea: Notes on Light and Beauty
Keywords:
prophetic tone, light, darkness, sacred, detourAbstract
In the chapter titled “Prophecies” in the book Aspects of the novel (1927), the English novelist and critic E. M. Forster places us squarely in the “accent of the voice” of authors as the most singular aspect of their style. Following his suggestion that isnecessary to listen to the tone that resonates “beyond the words”, the prophetic voice in which the tension of the text is woven, we will attempt to locate the enunciation that accounts for how the sacred is knotted at the limen between the bearable and the unbearable of the enigma of light that contains darkness. Along these lines, we will try to isolate in the voice of various uthors and texts the expression of light and beauty as manifestations of an experience that becomes foreign to ourselves and that at times blind us. We will relate an exegesis of Exodus3: 1-6 with authors such us Melville, Rilke, Evdokimov, and Dostoevsky to find the tone that signals the necessary temporal detour to locate the silence in which epiphany erupts.References
