Abstract

In Argentina, the Communist Party emerged and expanded from the early 20th century following the European guidelines, but faced its own challenges when Peronism arises. The mass movement gave Peronism the force to be the official hegemony from where, took the power of the State. The new political space perceived the Communist Party as an opposition in the battle to lead the social revolution and began to consider it a threat. As a result of this perception, the Communist Party becomes an “other” -even more dangerous because of its closeness and its internality- that the power watches, pursues and imprisons. This essay examines the political violence exercised during the Peronist government in the novel La Casa Modesa (1949). From an experimental narrative framed into modernism, Fina Warschaver describes the political horror by linking the revolutionary forces to primitive Christianism and the political persecution to the Roman Imperio. If reality resides in the inner gaze and the Avant-garde action also occupies the territory of the sinister (Foster, 2008), the narrative strategies that make political denunciation possible will be identified, questioning not only the established order but also the representation policies that are aesthetically adopted in the face of violence.

Es investigadora adjunta del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas de Argentina con sede en el Laboratorio de investigación en Ciencias Humanas y profesora de Teoría y crítica literaria en la UNSAM
