IDEOLOGÍAS DE LENGUAJE EN GUILLERMO MARTÍNEZ: EXPRESIONES DE EXCENTRICIDAD GEOPOLÍTICA
Keywords:
Guillermo Martínez, Geopolitics, Language, Eccentricity, OthernessAbstract
Guillermo Martínez is undoubtedly one of the most important figures of contemporary Argentinian narrative. For over two decades now, his texts have proven his success not only within the genre of fiction, but also in terms of essays and literary criticism. With the general aim of underlining the significance of this writer thus far hardly studied, this article will provide an analysis of one of the most crucial themes of his oeuvre, namely, eccentricity, and more specifically, eccentricity in terms of ideologies of language. What is the role that Guillermo Martínez gives to language as a manifestation of geopolitical eccentricity? The study will take examples from his novels to show, for instance, the complex array of nuances that Martínez gives to the use of English, bilingualism, non-translated words and a semi-neutral Spanish, all as expressions of otherness and the no place, as forms of differentiation between the one who belongs and the one who has left, as bases in given dichotomies such as the one from outside vis-à-vis the one from within.Downloads
