DISSONANCES OF THE MODERN CITY IN RUBÉN DARÍO’S ESPAÑA CONTEMPORÁNEA

The aim of this paper is to analyse a set of chronicles written by Rubén Darío for the newspaper La Nación. The corpus is anchored in the city of Madrid, where the Nicaraguan writer was sent to report on the state of Spanish society after theso-called «disaster of 1898». These chronicles formed part of what we understand as a publication plan outlined in the firstcommunication he wrote in this city. On this occasion we will focus on the different levels that are combined in the urban spaceof the selected texts: from the visual level, the sound level (voices) and from the socioeconomic level (sick city). We believe that from this multiplicity of edges we can make evident some dilemmas of modernity in those texts.References
