Comprehension: An Essential Element in Interpreting Training

Norma Andrada is a Sworn Translator graduated from Universidad del Salvador, Argentina. She is also a Conference Interpreter graduated from the London School of Languages, United Kingdom. She is a member of Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (CTPCBA), the American Translators Association (ATA) and the Argentine-British Chamber of Commerce. Vice President of the Argentine Association of Translators and Interpreters (AATI) for the period 1990-1995. She has been a Professor in the translation and interpreting courses at Universidad del Salvador since 1982. She is a former Professor in the Conference Interpreter course at Instituto Superior del Profesorado en Lenguas Vivas, Juan Ramón Fernández. She was Professor in charge of the Interpreting Diploma Course, Universidad San Pablo de Tucuman and Colegio de Traductores de Tucumán, Argentina, and Professor in charge of the undergraduate curricula in Interpreting, Universidad Católica de las Misiones, Argentina. She has been a full-time translator and interpreter for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) within the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Argentina. She has also worked for different government agencies and private companies in Argentina and the United Kingdom. In addition to her teaching career, she is Editorial Director of Interlingua, a private company involved in the provision of project management and planning services in translation, interpretation, and graphic design for national and international companies.
