Abstract

This paper analyzes the short story «Las viejas travestis», of Copi, published in Spanish in the book entitled Las Viejas travestis y otras infamias, in 1996. César Aira in his essay entitled Copi proposes a weak threshold between comics and theater in Copi's work, and a threshold between comics and theater; Aira will say: «The threshold, the thresholds are within the work of Copi and make his work. And the change from one medium to another is just one among a proliferation of passages (p. 14)». From this pose, this paper discusses the following hybridization gesture from the camp Copi tale. The text displays what Susan Sontag (1964) called «aesthetic camp», considering it a sensitivity; camp is love for the unnatural, artifice and exaggeration. One of the features of the camp, according to Sontag, is androgyny, exaggeration of sexual characteristics, traits that we will analyze. This aesthetic we read it as a postmodern gesture. In this paper, then, we will address camp in the story of Copi from the petition of Susan Sontag.
