The novel El mar que nos trajo by Griselda Gambaro (2001) is a tribute to her Italian origins and the role of migration in the development of Argentina. The author describes migration underlining the important legacy of the different cultures merging into one global identity within the XX century. The main aim of this work is to analyze the ‘transgenerational turn’ that characterizes the plot of this novel pointing out the relation between the main protagonist and his daughter Natalia. Agostino’s death and the transmission of his secret through an object-simulacrum, the photographyto his son, lays the conditions for reforging links with his ancestral homeland and for constructing shared and transnational memories.Downloads
