Abstract

The aim of this research is to carry out a reading of the work of Argentine poet Amelia Biagioni (1916–2005) from a global perspective and in dialogue with the Song of Songs. Establishing a metaphorical relationship between Biagioni’s work and the Song does not imply a directly intertextual relationship of hypertext and hypotext, but rather the observation of analogies and tensions in the narratives of both texts. Biagioni’s poetics have a distinctive style; however, traces of her reading of the Bible can be discerned. Regarding the Song of Songs, this includes the interpretations, new configurations, and refigurations that the text has provoked throughout history—on the one hand, through biblical exegesis, and on the other, through the creation of other works written in light of the Song, such as those of German and Spanish mystics. Beyond textual references, the language of the Song, its themes, emotional states, and above all its movements are not only present in her poetry but are carried to unexpected places through the momentum they gain throughout her work. This is what we propose to explore by undertaking a comprehensive journey through the author’s corpus. The biblical hermeneutics of Paul Ricoeur (2001) and Jean-Yves Leloup (2019) will provide the foundation for our analysis. Their perspectives on the dynamic nature of the Song have allowed us to draw certain insights regarding the characters, states, and movements of the biblical text, which will serve as the lens through which we approach the poetic corpus. We will conclude with a reflection on flight as the final word of the Song and of Biagioni’s poetry.
