Abstract

For decades, women writers have been excluded fromArgentina’s canon literature studies. However, in the last twenty years time the situation has begun to change due to the massive nature of gender struggles. The claims of various feminist groups have made sexist violence visible, which also had its counterpart in literature where it puts up its own struggle. In this research, we think of it as an appropriation of the word: women writers rethink the canonical and heterocentric representations of gender violence from a “female gaze” (Drucaroff, 2011), allowing new voices to come and build new meanings that intercede in disputes about visibility. Our interest relapses in the analysis of Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego, written by Mariana Enríquez (2016). Sarlo (2012) has referred to her literature as a game with social fears, with what stands out of the norm and impacts in everyday matters; she claims that, in this game with social fears displayed by the author there is a novelty that consists in constructing female characters that abuse themselves. In 2020, the author gave an interview to La Nación where she talks about the visibility of women-written literature. In this regard, she states: «The door fell after so much kicking». As for this, we will focus on the fictional essence of violence through terror and the possibilities of acting inthe face of this social reality.
