IMAGINACIÓN Y RECUPERACIÓN DEL PASADO EN VICTORIA OCAMPO
Keywords:
Autobiography, Memory, Imagination, Plot, FictionAbstract
Victoria Ocampo rebuilts her own past and the past of an epoch. The history of her country and the history of her family are so connected that she said Argentinian history was her own family history. History and fiction interlink just as memory and imagination. She says «time that is past, time that is comming again». Her two works, Autobiografía and Testimonios, reveal her obssession for memories. However, she recognizes the difficulty in getting hold of the past world and the problem of its truthfullness. The reason of her selfreference is the suffocation produced by her social environment. Nevertheless, she is the centre of her writings; a way of giving her selfconfidence as a woman writer at a time when writing was done by men. It was also the way of pointing out her freedom and independence in a prejudiced and oppressive society.Downloads
