BREAKING THE CIRCLE AND CHALLENGING LEGENDS IN MARIANA ENRÍQUEZ'S SHORT STORIES: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
Keywords:
popular legends, feminism, monstrosity, violence, traumaAbstract
Comparative analysis between “Los pájaros de la noche” (2024) and “Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego” (2016), two short stories by Argentine author Mariana Enríquez. Both stories are about women imprisoned by their daily lives, plagued by terrors and violence, who fight for a free future created by themselves. They deal with topics such as the enforcement of particular behaviors towards women through popular legends or extreme physical violence, family trauma, the silence that surrounds femicides, and the monstrosity and its relationship with the aforementioned popular stories. We try to elucidate how and by which tools the protagonists escape the violence that encompasses them, which will depend on their socio-cultural environment.References
