Small crack of light: resilience, narrative and identity in "Las indignas", by Agustina Bazterrica
Keywords:
resilience, narration, identity, intimate diary, memoryAbstract
Las Indignas (2023), by Agustina Bazterrica, presents a world in which Nature has become dangerous. The Earth is not a habitable anymore: there is no more water, and there is almost no food available, animals and plants have become toxic and violence reigns among humans. In this post-apocalyptic world, a group of women isolate themselves and take shelter in a former monks' convent, now the Casa de la Hermandad Sagrada. In this convent, although they are sheltered from the destroyed world, it is a space in which oppression, physical sacrifice, and silence reign. Everything must be left behind to save oneself, to wash away the impurities, even one's own identity. In this context, remembering is a dangerous act. However, the protagonist of this novel, whose name we don’t know, slowly returns to the past through writing.References
