The Italian Impression in the Journalistic Articles of Eduarda Mansilla

One aspect of the works of Eduarda Mansilla de Garcia that remains unexplored is her journalistic writings. In Escritos periodísticos completos (1860-1892) (2015), we have compiled an extensive corpus that highlights the need to study her wok in the field of Argentine journalism due to its unique identifying characteristics: among them is the versatility of said work, encompassing topics such as education, traditions, religion, morality, politics, literature and, especially, instrumental music and both operatic and folk singing, areas in which the Italian cultural is remarkable. Another characteristic feature shown in Mansilla’s notes is her cosmopolitism, evidenced in the memories of her trips to America and Europe. Furthermore, in her texts Mansilla shows herself to be both a witness of her times, expressing her subjectivity by offering her opinions about each of the various topics she reports on, as well as an autonomous intellectual that leverages her memories, bringing them to the present to contextualize the world she narrates.This essay is structured as a journalistic publication and proposes a pathway among the following sections: «Front-page», «Overview», «A Portrait of Eduarda Mansilla de García», «Chronicle entertainment», «News of a catastrophe» and «Travel Impressions».
